Tottenham might end up paying more for left-back after missing out on him last year due to Daniel Levy’s lowballing

Tottenham are closely monitoring Charlton Athletic’s Thierry Small ahead of the summer transfer window.

That is according to the latest report from Football Insider, which claims that Spurs have been watching the 19-year-old left-back’s performances in League One after failing to sign him from Southampton last year.

This is not the first time Spurs have shown interest in the 19-year-old. It was reported that the North London club made a bid worth £800k for him in January 2023, but their offer was short of Southampton’s demand of £1.2m.

He ended up joining St Mirren on loan and then moved to Charlton on a permanent move this January, where he has impressed so much so that the club have offered him a new contract already.

Tottenham’s interest in Thierry Small not surprising

Tottenham’s interest in the left-back is not surprising given their current injury situation. They do not have a single left-back at the moment, with Destiny Udogie, Ben Davies and Ryan Sessegnon all out injured.

Perhaps it is an area that Ange has identified that needs addressing in the summer. While Udogie has established himself as a first-team player, they still require adequate squad depth. Both Ben Davies and Ryan Sessegnon are expected to leave the club in the upcoming window and the club will have eyes on replacements.

If Spurs do make a move for him, they could end up paying much more for him this time, and it will be once again due to Daniel Levy’s failed lowballing tactics.
